Bangaram Island Resort
|
|
| |
Bangaram is the only international resort in Lakshadweep. The
island and the resort will be a new experience. Bangaram island
is uninhabited and accommodates a maximum of 26 couples so that
every guest has atleast two of the island’s 128 acres to
themselves. Bangaram presents a breathtaking spectacle of
sparkling coral reefs, turquoise blue lagoons, silvery beaches
and lush green coconut palms.
At the outset, let us point out the fact that Bangaram is not a
luxury resort. In fact, it is far away from that. Everything
about the island is natural and simple. It has not been affected
at all by the outside world. The resort is made up of 30 simple
huts. All rooms are comfortably furnished with cane furniture,
twin beds, ceiling fans, stocked fridge and private shower.
There is no phone, fax, e-mail, air conditioning, television,
newspaper, hot water or room service. Some of the island’s
beauty comes from what is absent. What you find is a curious
combination – five star service minus the pretention and excess.
The resort offers you a variety of outdoor activities – diving,
snorkeling, boating, fishing, kayaking etc. There is also an
Ayurveda centre. The cuisine is international and also offers a
selection from the coast of Lakshadweep islands. There is also a
well stocked bar. Diving and Ayurveda are not available during
monsoon (16 May to 30 September)
All visitors to Lakshadweep require an entry permit. For
obtaining the same please advise full names, address, date &
place of birth.
Lakshadweep(Agatti) is well connected by air from Cochin and Goa.
Indian Airlines operates a Dornier aircraft on all days except
Sundays from Cochin and on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from
Goa. The transfer from Agatti to Bangaram is by boat during fair
weather and by helicopter during monsoon.
Bangaram Island Resort.
The Jewel of the Lakshadweep, Bangaram Island is an uninhabited
haven. Barring the occasional visitor from nearby Agatti (where
the airport is situated), the only residents are the resort
staff.

Bangaram presents a breathtaking spectacle of sparkling coral
reefs, turquoise blue lagoons, silvery beaches and lush green
coconut palms. All preserved in the state little different from
the days of Charam Perumal's reign. Leaving the visitor with a
difficult choice. Activity or inactivity?
The more unhurried can simply laze on the silver beaches, soak
in the sun, listen to the sound of the waves and watch the
swaying of the palms. The island feels like it was designed
specifically for languid strolls, to watch the beach dances of
hermit crabs and listen to the raucous music of the seabirds.
But should you feel the need for a little more adventure on your
holiday, Bangaram island offers a whole new set of activities.

A
well-equipped and professionally manned Scuba Diving facility is
available at the resort. As a diving location, the virgin reefs
of Bangaram have been ranked by experienced divers as being
among the best anywhere. Recently an ancient shipwreck was
discovered. Besides coral, the reef abounds in undersea life,
particularly game fish and turtles. Diving sites are off the
reefs and are reached by boat.
Diving courses and lagoon diving are offered for beginners.
Diving is permitted only within safe depths around 30 meters.
Visitors can avail of a decompression chamber, except from 15
May to 15 September.
Doing a Hemingway
For deep sea big game fishing, Bangaram is an ideal location.
Record size Barracuda, Sailfish, Yellowfin, Travelly and Wahoo
have often been landed. Local boats are available here for rent
with experienced crew. Serious anglers are advised to bring
their own equipment.
